50501, the sponsor of the nationwide “Hands Off” events on April 5, is organizing another round of protest events on Saturday, April 19.
Is it OK to participate as a League member?
Given the League’s principle of speaking with one voice, how do members know what they can do? For April 19, as for April 5, League members are encouraged to participate, demonstrating our resistance to the federal administration’s actions to damage our democracy. If you are not already aware of events in your community, you can find local events here.
Time is short, but if there is not one in your community, your local League may organize something. You may wear League logos and League signs at local League-sponsored events. For events organized by other organizations, please check with your local League to determine if League logos are acceptable. You may always attend an event as your own person.
How do League members know when it’s OK to participate as a League member, rather than as an individual?
Primary guidance for League members comes from LWVUS through LWVWA leadership communication with local League Presidents, and for members at large via the LWVUS League in Action. As a rule of thumb, if an event is sponsored by a nonpartisan organization with a compatible mission, League may promote and participate in the event.
